Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5
At just 3.75×2.25×0.72 inches and 4.5 ounces, the TX5 is certainly a lot svelter than most waterproof cameras. In fact, it looks pretty similar to the rest of Sony’s TX line of ultracompact cameras, such as the new DSC-TX7 announced at CES and its popular predecessor, the DSC-TX1. The difference, though, is that the TX5 is waterproof to 10 feet, freezeproof down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit, dustproof, and shockproof up to a 5-foot drop. Like the TX7, it’s a 10.2-megapixel shooter with a wide angle (25-100mm equivalent) 4x optical zoom lens. Although its 3-inch, 230,000-dot touchscreen doesn’t match the TX7’s gorgeous 3.5-inch, 921,000-dot touchscreen, it’s still nice and big for such a small camera. The TX5 also delivers 720p HD video recording (vs. the TX7’s 1080i AVCHD movie mode) and an HDMI output, which is a nice touch. The camera will be available in silver, black, pink, green, and red, and will ship in April for $350.

Great Until Using Under Water
Pros: panoramic view is awesome, the idea of taking pictures underwater
Cons: Breaking after using under water
I wanted an under water camera for my summer vacation this year because my 4 year old niece was coming with us and I thought it'd be awesome to get photos of her learning to swim at the pool. I was stuck between an Olympus Stylus and this camera, but this camera won based upon reviews and won my pick because of the awesome panoramic feature. I was very disappointed that water somehow leaked in after using it for only the second time in the pool. I made sure to follow the very specific instructions in the manual for under water use (can only use under water for 1 hour, sit in fresh water for a few minutes, allow to completely dry before closing front, etc.) and then hours later, I attached it to the TV to view the photos with the family and the screen showed one picture, then when I switched to the next it was discolored and staticy looking and then the camera completely shut down and would not turn back on (I had a freshly charged batter in it too). As I said before, this camera has great reviews, so I am hoping that there was just some kind of defect on the one that I got. I fortunately bought the warranty and Sony is sending me a box so that I can send my camera in and get repaired. I am hoping it will be fixed or that I will get a full refund because that is too much money spent on a camera to only use twice!
